Acute Obstructive Suppurative Cholangitis



Abstract
A case of the acute obstructive suppurative cholangitis, who is 72 year old man, was experien
ced at Red Cross Hospital in Seoul.
On admission this patient was complained of the RUQ pain of benign inflammatory disease of
the biliary tract is a common surfical problem. For the most part it is successfully managed
relatively little mortality and morbidity.
But the acute obstructive suppurative cholangitis is characterized by repeated septic episodes which
remit either spontaneously or antibiotic treatment.
Untreated, the asymptomatic interval become shorter, the liver function deteriorates, and death
from hepatic abscess and overwhelming sepsis is common.
The clinical diagnosis is made by the triad of RUQ abdominal pain, jaundice and chill, fever
first described by Charcot. (Charcot¢¥s Triad).
The patho physiology of the cholangitis is related to infection proximal to the obstructing lesion
of the bile duct.
